The Race For Life!

So the summer is drawing to a close here in jolly England, and looking back over the past few months what a summer it’s been!

I started it off running, literally with the race for life. Like a mad dog and an Englishman I went for a run in the middle of what felt like the hottest day in history! But nevertheless I did it and i did myself proud.

On the afternoon of the event I rocked up looking like a sore thumb in my brightly coloured fruity t-shirt in the middle of an ocean of pink! If you’ve not heard much about the race for life you’re meant to wear something pink to be united as women against Cancer.

However as I have stated before I am tired of our community giving cancer such power and energy. As a throwback I thought I would show, by being the odd one out, that I am taking responsibility for my own health. I do this by eating micro nutrient rich foods and by keeping fit, for most people just these things will help you stay clear of most diseases.

It worked as many people asked me why I wasn’t wearing pink; the question gave me the perfect platform to tell them about getting healthy and taking preventative action against disease.

Disease cannot live in a body that is at ease!

I also thought that being the odd one out is a good analogy for an individual trying to be healthy whilst being surrounded with people who just go along with the crowd and are happy to just blend in and go with the flow. But by going with the flow you are putting your self at risk of countless things, putting your faith and trust into food companies doesn’t work as we have been brainwashed into believing things that just aren’t true!

Sometimes I feel like I am drowning in a sea of sugar, E numbers and a tide of gullible ignorant people who believe that it doesn’t really matter what you eat.

So regardless of my beliefs and opinions of the race, it was about getting people together to support those who have been effected by the disease one way or another.

It was very emotional and beautiful to see, it’s very rare to see people to come together and have such love and compassion for each other. There were of stories of love ones lost, inspirational talks by people who have regained their health and who are leading stronger and healthier lives! It was very powerful experience, and very emotional, so emotional that there were tissues being passed around like hot cakes!

Saying that though I was weeping for what felt like most of the day! For starters I’d realized on the morning of the race that I had tripled the target I had set for my self and raised a total of £325! I was so excited that so many people had believed in me and had donated so much money. I would like to take a moment to thank all of those fantastic people who donated their hard earn money for me and remind them how much their support helped me on all of my training runs and on the day.

 THANK YOU!

All of this gratitude and heart swelling happiness is pretty overwhelming so a few tears were shed before the race even began!

I also blame the fact that I chose to do the afternoon race and not the morning one which appears to be the more sensible option as I worried my self into nervous wreck, and spent most of the morning pacing. But nevertheless! When the time came I found my self in the middle of an ocean of pink ladies and a horn blew and we were off.

As I have never voluntarily signed my self up for any kind of physical test or race, so this was a pretty big deal for me, so I as that horn resounded in my head, my heart pounded in my chest and my legs just took me forward.

The runners are separated into three sections, the runners, joggers and walkers. I didn’t want to disappoint myself so I started with the joggers, although those first few minutes I found myself running an obstacle course of people, all I remember is a blur of pink for the first ten minutes, and me darting around say ‘sorry’ ‘excuse me’, it was so strange to be running with people so close around me.

I’m not the kind of person that goes running with friends and has a jolly, when I run it’s a solitary escape, a space and time for myself, just my feet, heart and mind in sequence. So those first few moment felt very strange, but as I kept running the obstacle course it started to thin and there were less people and I felt propelled by a force of love and support from the incredible people who donated money and who believed in me. I was pushed on by the crowds of people who lined the edges of the course, and by my own head, I just kept saying to myself I as ran towards the end, towards my family who were waiting for me

‘I will NOT stop, KEEP GOING! YOU CAN DO THIS!

Sure enough as the sun beat down on me the last final stretch appeared and I felt like the terminator, like I had bionic legs. A new focus came over me and I ran like Forest Gump! When I finally reached the finish line the crowd cheered, I saw my family and burst into joyful tears.

I had done it! The girl who had been told that I would never amount to anything, the girl who had once weighed over 18 stone and could hardly walk, I ran a race! I started with the joggers and finished with the runners at 30 minutes and 28 seconds!

It’s bin done faster, but never by me!

I showed myself that regardless of how scared I am and how much I think I can’t do something, the chances are I can, and I will do it better than most people, because I will put my mind to it! And I will give it ago, no matter what people think. I hope I have shown people not to just be all talk but to live a life full of action, just go and make it happen!

So who would have thought? I’m off for a run!

Race For Life

Race For Life

https://www.justgiving.com/bethloveslife

On the 22nd of June I will be running the Race For Life!

For some perhaps not a big deal, but for me, well its kind of a big deal. If you’ve been paying attention to my blog will know my past (weight/confidence issues) by now and know that running is a new thing for me! It is also an opportunity to show my support to my friends and family who have been effected by the ‘C’ word!

I am not going to dwell to much on the ‘disease’ that I am running for as it goes against my beliefs of curing the root cause of the problem, rather than trying to treat symptoms of a body in DIS – EASE.

Energy flows where attention goes!

Lets stop giving it our attention and energy and lets start focusing on our physical health and well being!

I will be running to promote health and to inspire people to get healthy and to take preventative action!

Please help the cause and help to give me the confidence during my long training runs and to keep going!

I DONT WANT TO GIVE UP AND WALK!

So please support me in this if you have the means!

Thank you beautiful people

Lots of love & Vitality to you all

Five Filling, Immune Boosting, Vitamin Rich Juice Recipes

So I’ve been asked a few times what my favourite juice recipes are,

so here are my 5 favourite juices!

There are a combination of ‘thickes and thinies’ A thickie is a fresh fruit and veg juice from the juicer blended with whole fruits and veg in a blender with ice, to make it thicker and more filling. They are very similar to a smoothie but with less blended fruit and more nutritious juice! A thinie is straight from the juicer!

Juice Number 1: The Anti – Inflammatory Green Blend

(its pink in the photo cause I didn’t have a lot of pineapple that day so I added some mixed berries)

This juice is lovely, sooo tastey, and healthy with powerful anti – inflammatory properties.

The cauliflower in this juice help with inflammation due to the sulforaphane that it contains, it has been proven to help ease arthrtis and target pain caused by inflammation! Also remember that when raw these vegetables contain more nutrients and alive enzymes than after cooking. I don’t think eating a large amount of raw cauliflower would be too pleasurable! So stick it in this juice for a tastey and fun alternative!

The pineapple in this juice helps to sweeten it up and is also a power anti – inflammatory!

This juice is a thickie so get your juicer and blender out and ready to go!

1/4 Medium PINEAPPLE, peeled

1 PEAR, any hard variety

1 LIME, peeled

3cm slice RAW GINGER

1/4 Medium CUCUMBER

1/2 Stalk CELERY

1 floret (lime sized) Cauliflower

Into the Juicer

Then add the Juice, Some Ice & 1/2 of A beautiful Ripe AVOCADO to the Blender

And ENJOY!

The thickies are so excellent to have as a meal replacement as they keep you so full and energised! Howeve if you are considering replacing juices with meals make sure you get the advice of your doctor, and remember to be sensible about it dont starve your self, listen to your body when its hungry make another shake or have a snack! If done right juicing should make you feel revitalised and full of energy, not hungry and miserable like lots of diets, this isn’t a diet but a way of helping your body do what it does best! Be healthly and beable to repair itself with ease.

Do it right and GET HEALTHY AND HAPPY

Juice 2: Calcium Refresher

People underestimate the bodies need for calcium and for the majority of people it comes from animal products such as milk. However vegetables such as Broccoli, Kale, Spinach and Turnips have a huge amount of calcium. So juice it up get it in you!

Calcium is a macro element, it is a vital for our structure, our bones. Bones are a reservoir calcium, so if your levels of calcium get to low in the blood stream it gets taken from the bones. Our nails, hair and teeth are also calcium stores, this is why when people start to introduce more calcium rich sources into their bodies their skin starts to glow, nails are stronger and grow faster and hair is strong and shiny!

The Calcium Refresher is a ‘Thinie’, so you will only need your Juicer, unless you want to blend it with ice thats up to you, if so then you will need the blender.

1 APPLE

1 PEAR, any hard variety

1/4 Medium CUCUMBER

1 LIME, peeled

1 Handful FRESH MINT

3cm slice BROCCOLI STEM

1 large handful SPINACH LEAVES

1/2 small TURNIP

small handful of ICE, optional

I added some Chia & Pumpkin seeds and some magical Goji Berries to the top to give me some more energy & because it looks pretty.

Juice 3: CHLOROPHYLL CLEANSER

A regular intake of Chlorophyll for the body is so important, it is basically the suns energy in a solid form, it is magical stuff, it facilitates the process of photosynthesis. Chlorophyll is the molecule in plants, which gives it that bright, gorgeous green colour.  It is rich in Magnesium, it helps to regulate the body temperature and the production of protein. It lowers blood pressure and helps nerve and muscle function. Chlorophyll helps to build and clean the blood, and helps the red blood cells ability to carry oxygen, which enables the cells to deliver us increased levels of oxygen! Win!

This is a beautiful Juice, its very clean and nourishing.

This juice is also a ‘Thinie’, so unless you wanna blend the ice, leave the Blender.

1 APPLE

1 PEAR, any hard variety

1/4 medium CUCUMBER

1/2 LIME, unwaxed, unpeeled

1 stalk CELERY

1 large handful SPINACH LEAVES

3cm slice BROCCOLI STEM

1 large handful KALE

1 small handful ICE

Image

Juice 4: PROTEIN RICH POWERHOUSE

This is one of my favourite juices out of all of the juices I make, it’s the one I use after I do a hard work out. Hemp is a one of the richest sources of readily digestible vegetable protein and combined with the peas which are full of protein, make this shake an unstoppable force of energy!

This juice is a ‘thickie’ so grab that blender!

1 APPLE

1 large handfull SPINACH LEAVES

1/4 medium PINEAPPLE

1/4 medium CUCUMBER

1 LIME, peeled

3cm slice BROCCOLI STEM

6 pods FRESH PEAS, raw

add this juice to the blender with ICE & 1/2 ripe AVOCADO

1 tsp HEMP PROTEIN POWER

I tbsp MIXED SEEDS, sunflower, chia, pumpkin etc,

I sprinkle the seeds on top instead of in the blender but do whatever you feel.

And last but certainly not least is:

Image

Juice 5: PURE RAW ENERGY SMOOTHIE

As I mentioned before raw fruits and vegetables have a plethora of nutrients and digestive enzymes that help body function, one of the great benefit of these enzymes is that they help to aid digestion, which gives your body more energy to use for other fun activities other that just digesting food! Excellent!

This Juice also includes hemp powder which is loaded with fatty acids which give you tons of energy, once processed by the body they provide twice as much energy as carbohydrates or proteins!

This is the Juice of Champions!

It is a ‘Thickie’ so dust off the blender!

1 APPLE

1/4 medium PINEAPPLE, peeled

2 stalks CELERY

1 large CARROT, remove hard ends

1 BEETROOT, remove hard ends

1/4 LEMON, unwaxed, unpeeled

Add juice to blender with:

1/2 BANANA, peeled

1/2 ripe AVOCADO

1tsp HEMP PROTEIN POWDER

1 small handful ICE

So there you go my five favourite juices! I hope you enjoy, let me know if you try them and how they go!

LET”S GET HEALTHY

28 Day SUPER JUICE ME CHALLENGE

photo-1 Super Juiced

So tomorrow marks Day 19 of my 28 day Super Juice me detox!

It has gone so quickly already I cannot believe it. I was originally going to write a day to day account but then who needs to read a whiny blog about me wanting to eat chick peas and rye bread! and not a Sweet N Smooth Veggie Blend for dinner! (Which are really good by the way!)
Well thats already one positive improvement! My cravings are for chickpeas and rye bread.. Not very traditional. Nevertheless IMPROVEMENT!
However I have been eating a cleanish, vegan/none processed food diet for a few months now so I didn’t think that my results would be as ground breaking as someone who has a lot of weight to lose or has make a huge change to their lifestyle.

However I am not saying that there hasn’t been changes, Since starting the Juice detox 18 days ago I have already lost I have lost 10 pounds! Which is incredible! I feel excellent, my skin is literally glowing and I have loads of energy. If you haven’t heard much about juicing or havent watched Jason Vales Super Juice Me! Or Joe Cross’ Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead, then you still might be thinking how is she surviving on juice!

Well juicing is what our body does to food anyway, our digestive system is a biological cement mixer, from the moment food touches our lips till, with get rid of it the other end. The quicker nutrients reach our bloodstream the quicker they can be assimilated into our cells and we can reap the benefits of them. Obviously a variety of juices and smoothies should be consumed to ensure correct amount of nutrients and energy levels. Our bodies are constantly trying to achieve homeostasis, a balance, the problem is with our modern day diets, high refined sugar and carbohydrate diet, we put our bodies through so much stress without even realising it. So it is important that we counter balance this Chaos with what may seem to be an extreme measure.
The trouble is we have become so hooked on these substances that the side affects don’t even bother us as more, or we are just so accustomed to them that we don’t even remember what feeling good is!! To naturally wake up in the morning feeling rested and full of vitality!
We have accepted negative habits and feelings as the norm because that is the familiar:

we have accepted,

Sleeplessness
headaches
contant tiredness
spots
oily skin
brittle, nails & hair
weight related issues
insomnia
lack of concentration
Bad gases, Burps, Farts etc
depression
anxiety
And many many more!

These things people deal with on a day to day life which would be dramatically improved if they started to listen to their bodies and how they feel before and after these meals. The majority of the time the good feelings from eating high carbohydrate, high fat, processed foods are from the brain, and the brain will be receiving a load of chemicals all at once, you will start to salivate and get excited about the food, because the brain is craving the chemicals and the next sugar rush.

This has derived from us humans once being hairy cavemen and women! Back then we would have been hunter gatherers and high fat/high calorie food meant the difference from being able to live another year in a cave with your cave-wife and protecting your family or starving to death. It’s our instincts, and being surrounded by food wherever you go in the western world, its hard to turn your super powerful brain off to the idea that we don’t need more, man made substances. Especially as the food industry knows full well of our brains want, need, Addiction to high calorie food and uses that weakness against us to make billions.

However by listening to our bodies not our brains we can start to realise what an amazing machine it is and if we treat it well it will show us the benefits tenfold!

The first this to do is to begin by clearing out the mess that gets caught up in the body over years of abuse. And you might think I mean fat! Well, fat is an effect of repeated ‘food’ abuse, but there are actually worse side effects from a bad diet. Toxic chemicals and toxins stay in the body for a long time, the body collects them up and tries to dispose of them, however not all of them make it out into the urine, which is the safest exit route for toxins. Some get stored in with fat, it is thought that toxins, react with the body and the body creates a pocket of fat around them preventing the toxic chemicals being assimilated into your body.
So for me one of the biggest things was that juicing gave my body the chance to work through the toxin bearing fat and get it out of my system! Although I lost weight which I was rejoicing about, I feel healthier that I have done in a long time. By doing this ive noticed that losing weight is just a side affect of healing from the inside out! Getting healthier and feeling amazing.

I am juicing for 28 days as a part of a challenge set by professionals, which have set out a programme, the specific programme I am following is Jason Vales Super Juice me app. It is really informative and gives you weekly shopping lists and all of the information on the specific nutrients that you are receiving from each juice, and there are videos which help you through the hard times! etc Worth buying if your interested!

http://www.juicemaster.com/

DO NOT ATTEMPT A 28 DAY JUICE FAST WITHOUT PROPER KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING AND WITHOUT CONSULTING A PROFESSIONAL, Physician, Nutritionist, or Dietician!!!

So with that out of the way I can now share with you some of my amazing juices so far!
Some of them i havnt exactly followed the recipe cause i ran out of a specific veg etc, but I tend to replace it with something that is close nutritionally.

So Day 1 Started with a ginger and apple Shot to awaken the taste buds and to protect the imuune system!

Then with the juices as follows:

photophoto 4photo 1photo 5

So that was day one! Its not easy especially as I am living in a house with a lot of people at the moment who seem to be eating all the time! but I feel excellent. The juices give me so much energy and I have this great clean feeling! I only really miss the time spent over food, the sitting at the table and chatting etc, I’m not actually missing the food as such, I guess my body is getting exactly what it needs!

Long live the SUPER JUICE!

I will post more of my progress and more Juices soon.
